How TfL treats points
| Your record | What TfL does |
|---|---|
| Minor offences, a few points | Does not stop your application; you may get a warning |
| One major offence | At least a year from the conviction before you apply |
| More than one major offence in five years | Not normally considered until seven years after the latest sentence ends |
| 9 points or more | The offences are reviewed and you may be refused |
| 12 points or more | TfL will not license you |
What counts as a major offence
Dangerous driving, driving without insurance or while disqualified, failing to stop or report an accident, careless driving with 6 or more points, using a hand-held phone or device, failing to name the driver, and any single offence carrying 6 or more points. Parking and other offences without points do not count.
A ban while you are on the Knowledge
If you are disqualified under totting-up while learning, TfL can put your application on hold for the ban and let you carry on where you left off, provided the points were not for serious offences. You must tell TfL about any points you get while on the Knowledge.
