The total is our sum of TfL's fee table, sitting the written exam once, paying the DBS checks online and one year of the Update Service. TfL says some costs may vary.

Later costs

The Update Service goes on at £16 a year for as long as you are licensed. The fee table still lists a taxi driving test, but there has been no provider since 2016, so there is nothing to pay for now.

Costs TfL does not list

Each written exam re-sit at £225; a moped or scooter, protective clothing, fuel and a CBT certificate, or a bike; maps; certificates of good conduct if you have lived abroad; and a Knowledge school if you join a paid one. The time is the biggest cost of all: most candidates take three to four years.
