What must taxi drivers report to TfL?

Any arrest, charge, caution or conviction, including driving offences with penalty points, within 48 hours. The rule has applied since July 2024. Candidates still on the Knowledge must also tell TfL about cautions, convictions and points, and about changes to their health.

Checked against TfL's documents on 3 October 2026.

Licensed drivers: within 48 hours

  • Being arrested and released, charged, cautioned or convicted.
  • Any driving offence with penalty points. For a fixed penalty notice, within 48 hours of accepting and paying it.

The 48-hour rule has applied since 1 July 2024.

Candidates on the Knowledge

While you are learning, tell TfL about:

  • any caution, conviction or charge, including penalty points, or being bound over;
  • a medical condition or medication that could affect driving;
  • a change of name, address, email or phone number.

A minor conviction may mean only a written warning. A more serious one is judged against the rules for licensed drivers, and TfL can withdraw its acceptance of your application.
