Can you do the Knowledge with dyslexia or a disability?

Yes. TfL says that if you are physically able to drive a taxi, you can apply. Candidates with dyslexia or another learning difficulty can ask for adjustments, such as a 30-minute appearance instead of 20 and extra time in the written exam, by sending medical evidence to the Knowledge team.

Checked against TfL's documents on 3 October 2026.

Dyslexia and learning difficulties

Send medical evidence to the Knowledge team and TfL can adjust how you are examined. The adjustments it names include a 30-minute appearance instead of 20, extra time in the multiple-choice exam, and telling examiners about things such as mispronunciation, so that they mark what you know rather than how you say it.

Physical disabilities

TfL's position is that if you are physically able to drive a taxi, you can apply. Some medical conditions do rule a driver out, for the safety of passengers and the public, and fitness is judged against the DVLA Group 2 standard.

If you need a vehicle adapted, for example with a steering ball, hand controls or moved pedals, you are referred to an independent mobility centre for an assessment, at your own cost. Adaptations are fitted by an approved installer and approved by TfL, and any limit on the vehicles you can drive is written on your licence.
