What is the Knowledge written exam?

Stage 2 for All London candidates: a multiple-choice paper taken once you have learned all 320 runs. Five route questions are worth 10 marks each and 25 point questions 2 marks each. The pass mark is 60 out of 100, and you must sit it within two years of starting.

Checked against TfL's documents on 3 October 2026.

TfL's documents measure the two years from slightly different points, from the introductory pack or the introductory talk, so allow for the earlier one. You book and pay £225 through the Knowledge team.

Why it matters

You cannot reach the appearances at Stage 3 without passing it.
