How the Blue Book is laid out
The 320 runs are in 20 lists of 16. The first five lists, 80 runs, lead to the self-assessment; the rest lead to the written exam. Candidates learn them in order.
What each run asks
- Where the start and finish are.
- The shortest legal route between them, both ways, since one-way streets can make the way back different.
- Every street and point within a quarter of a mile of each end. Suburban candidates learn half a mile.
The route and its two circles of streets make the shape TfL's booklet calls a dumbbell.
The suburban routes
The Blue Book also holds a set of suburban routes, asked at the Stage 6 final exam. TfL's web page says there are 25 and its 2022 booklet 27, so check the copy you are given.
All 320 runs, with a map of each, are on our Blue Book pages.
