The order of things
- Create an online account with TfL and apply for a taxi driver licence. If you cannot apply online, email TfL's licensing team for a paper pack.
- Pay the £138 application fee, and apply for an enhanced DBS check through TfL's provider.
- See your GP for the medical.
- Once TfL is satisfied with your character and medical checks, it sends you the introductory pack: the Blue Book of runs and a booklet of advice.
- Attend the introductory talk with a Knowledge examiner, about an hour. You cannot progress until you have.
TfL asks every applicant to take its online safeguarding awareness course, too.
Before you apply
Check you meet the requirements first, since the application fee is not refundable: age, driving licence, right to work, character and medical. Our guide to becoming a London taxi driver covers each one.
